I’m planning to get my first dog & don’t know alot about heartworms. I currently live in Florida & she will be a indoor/outdoor dog. Is it necessary to put the dog on heartworm prevention meds or should I just have her checked yearly? Most people I’ve known with dogs don’t have their dogs on the meds, so I’m wondering if its even worth it. Also, are Huskys anymore suseptible to heartworms than other type of dogs?

My dog is allergic to many foods, particularly high protien foods such as meat. My household includes myself, my husband, two teen aged sons and an elderly aunt who suffers from early stages of alziemers. The aunt frequently forgets that no one is to feed the dog but me, and gives her some of whatever she is eating. This is causing some serious health problems for the dog. I’m thinking the best thing would be to train the dog to refuse anything to eat from anyone but myself. Anyone have any ideas of how to do this aside from locking the dog away from the aunt. They are really great friends and keep each other company while the rest of us need to be gone.

My dog is a miniature pinscher, and he can never get along with other dogs. I mean, the moment he sees other dogs, he starts barking like crazy! What’s worse, when he gets near to the other dog, he starts attacking it. Is there a way to teach my dog not to be so mean? If so, how?

How do you train a dog to stop jumping up at other dogs ? We have a pug border cross.
Do you train it to sit and then tell it to sit when he sees another dog ? Or do you need to do something else ? Can you train him yourself or should you pay for dog training. My dog is around 18 months old and we have only just got him. Any help would be appreciated.

I take my dog everywhere in the car with me, which has led me to worry, what happens to your dog if you get in a car accident? What happens to her if you’re unconcious but the dog is fine? What happens if your dog is hurt? Do they take her to the emergency vet? Is it your responsibility to get her to the vet if you’re fine? Is there an official policy for paramedics about this? Is there anything I can do to make sure my dog isn’t left to die?
I didn’t mean to seem like I’m freaking out, I just can’t find anyone who actually know what happens. Everyone I have asked says, “Good question… I assume they do something for the dog?” I want an answer from someone who knows exactly what happens, not just a guess.

My family and I have a 10 month old female Aussie and would like to add another dog to our family. Ideally we would like a smaller dog that could keep up with our current dog without being run over! :)

I want to adopt a dog but I’m not sure which kind would be best to get…I live in an apartment so I would want a relatively small dog and I work full time so the dog/dogs would be left at home for eight hours at a time for possibly three times a week.

I have a hard with beautiful grass due to how hard I have worked to improve it. But my neighbors let their dogs go to the bathroom on my yard. I have no problem picking up all the poop but dog urine kills my grass in numberous places. Of course I never see the dogs in my yard. What is a good way to stop the dogs from going on my grass beyond putting up a fence or signs. Is there any chemical I can put on the grass? I could hid mousetraps here or there. Any other ideas?

I’d like a small dog and easy to care for. A dog that’s good with kids and easy to train. Any suggestions?
