I adopted a second dog about 2 months ago. Both dogs sleep in the guest bedroom, and our new dog hides out there all day, while our other dog loves being out in the living room or wherever we are at. New dog is about 3 years old Golden Retriever/Chow mix. Other dog is about 1 year old German Shephard mix.
We are in the early stages of making plans to adopt a dog. We are aware that adopting means we will most likely get a mixed breed but we have heard conflicting info on which dogs are compatible with young children.
The children are old enough to respect a dog but just the same we want a dog that will play but not too rough.
I’m just looking for some ideas so when it is time to start looking we know which dogs to rule out.
I am looking to buy a dog but cant seem to chose one. I am wanting everyones opinion on what kind of dog do they think will be the best for my family. I have two children. Ages 5 and 2. I own my own home and have a big back yard although its not fenced. I am also a stay at home mother so the dog will get plenty attention. What will be the best dog for my family? Small dog or Big. Boston Terrier. The terrier is a gentle, well mannered dog and enjoys a challenge. Boston terriers are very easy to train and make for great family dogs and friends.
Irish Setter. A very affectionate dog, the Irish setter is a very good choice for families due to its liking for children and constant happy playful attitude.
I live with my parents and my dad is talking about gettting a dog. We have 2 cats- one is almost 14 and the other one is 7 years old. Dad’s cat passed away in February of this year and he’s been talking about getting a dog ever since. Dad talks about getting a Lab or a border collie, but I don’t think either one of those dog breeds would be the most compatible with our 2 cats. Mom’s 7 year old cat is very territorial of the back porch and attacks any animal that comes on or near it and my 14 year old cat runs whenever an animal comes in the house. Mom’s alllergic to dog hair, so we can’t have a longhaired breed dog. What kind of dog gets along well with cats, because Dad’s starting to get serious about getting a dog?
